The Austrian filmmaker and producer Susanne Guggenberger has been appointed the new artistic director of Bildrausch – Filmfest Basel. Following this year’s hybrid anniversary edition, the festival is aiming for an in-person event at sites surrounding the Stadtkino Basel in spring 2022. 


“The cinematic exploration of our world and its almost endless variety of expression enrich my daily work. Bildrausch is a wonderful place, where this enthusiasm is cultivated and shared with audiences. I am looking forward to this new challenge !”, says Susanne Guggenberger. 


Born in 1970 in Austria, Susanne Guggenberger studied history and communication sciences in Salzburg. She then worked for over two decades in various functions in the film industry, including as an independent documentary producer for Mira Film, as well as at World Sales Autlook Films and at the Filmfestival DOK Leipzig. Most recently she lived and worked for five years in Los Angeles. 


Susanne Guggenberg will move to Basel to succeed Nicole Reinhard and Beat Schneider, who founded and developed Bildrausch since 2011. Nicole Reinhard will take up a new role at Filmpodium Zurich from 1. December 2021. At the same time, Beat Schneider will become artistic director of Stadtkino Basel. A new managing director for the Bildrausch – Filmfest Basel and the Stadtkino will be chosen by the end of 2021.
