Awards & Jury

The films presented at BILDRAUSCH are all worthy of awards in their own right. And yet film awards offer filmmakers financial support as well as the recognition they deserve. The Peter-Liechti-Wanderpreis and the short film prize are awarded by a jury. The public is invited to vote for their favourite.

PETER-LIECHTI-AWARD

The Peter Liechti Award honours the Swiss filmmaker and author Peter Liechti (1951-2014). It honours a work that is characterised by particular narrative or visual courage - a film that, as Liechti put it, "goes the whole hog". He followed his conviction: "That a film should venture out onto the branches, far out into an area where it could actually get uncomfortable". Peter Liechti judged the international competition of the first BILDRAUSCH FILMFEST BASEL in 2011.

The Peter Liechti Prize is awarded by the previous year's winner and a co-juror. Each year it goes to a filmmaker from the international programme. The respective winner receives the travelling prize for one year and will pass the prize on to a selected filmmaker from the international programme in the following year; the prize is endowed with CHF 3'000.–. The travelling award in the form of a reclining figure of eight was designed by Luzia Vogt.

SHORTS AWARD

The short film award, affectionately known as SHORTS, honours the incomparable spirit of creativity, ingenuity and independence that inspires, moves and transforms Swiss short film. The SHORTS AWARD is endowed with CHF 1'000.–.

AUDIENCE AWARD

The Audience Award honours the most popular film of our BILDRAUSCH viewers. It honours an outstanding work by vote. The winning film receives CHF 3'000.– and will be shown again as a SPECIAL in the Stadtkino Basel programme after BILDRAUSCH.
