As is often the case, this film by Dufour-Laperrière can be approached from two angles. On the one hand, you could say that he is telling a love story, which even the rumblings of war cannot harm. On the other, you could say that he is thinking about how much of the outside world this very inner state called love has to endure. A study in forced thematic contrasts. (om)
