Everything that can go wrong does. And Valentin Merz is particularly interested in these moments of derailment and slippage. In BROTHERS - A FAMILY FILM (2020), two brothers, Adi and Valentin, meet again after twenty years. Adi is unemployed and still lives with his parents, while Valentin is a filmmaker. And in NACHTKATZEN (2022), an erotic film goes off the rails when the director - also named Valentin - disappears during shooting. Merz has dispensed with a script in the conventional sense, making the derailment inevitable. In LES BOUCHES, it is an insurance scam whose consequences spiral out of control.
After working as a typographer in Mexico and studying film and theatre in Berlin, Valentin Merz studied film at the HEAD in Geneva.
