Placet Experiri

  • Ruth Baettig

Placet Experiri is a virtual reality experience and artistic exploration that combines the realms of daydreaming with a world augmented by XR technology. Questions are raised about the nature of memory, imagination and the digital world. The soundtrack plays a crucial role. Placet Experiri, which literally means "it's worth a try", invites viewers to cross the boundaries between reality and imagination. The title of the work is borrowed from Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain. Placet Experiri is available in various versions and formats.

DIRECTOR

  • Ruth Baettig

Ruth Baettig is a freelance visual artist (studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (ESAV) in Geneva, the Academy of Media Arts (KHM) in Cologne and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) in Paris). In addition to site-specific work, she is interested in exploring different media and has developed long-term themes of image creation between analogue/digital and around experiences of memory/imagination and losing oneself (Mi sono perso; I am lost, etc.) in her work. The focus of her artistic work is on interventions and performative interactions in public space as well as on videos and installations. As a cultural practitioner and co-founder of the FILMEXPLORER platform, she is strongly committed to the reception of film as an art form. Ruth Baettig finds the reciprocal impulses that result from her complementary working practice very productive and contemporary. Ruth Baettig lives and works in Basel and Lucerne.
