Savita is under a lot of pressure. The young woman is the daughter of a simple cotton farmer and is studying sociology in her third and final year. If she passes her final exam, the doors will open for her to a job in the state administration and thus an independent future. But that is not the only pressure she is under. Something else is weighing even more heavily on her and her family. Savita is to be married. The same old questioning of prospective spouses is humiliating. Name, height, mother's family, education, hobbies. The longer it goes on, the more hopeless the situation becomes. Patriarchal traditions weigh paralyzingly on the whole family. And the day of the final exam is approaching. But the father gives preference to a potential groom. Savita is torn and gives in. The new rejection, however, also holds a last spark of hope for Savita. But this hope is also dashed and drives her father to extremes.
