A train races down the tracks, through tunnels, through landscapes, through time. Shadowy archive material overlaps with zoetrope animation, mid-century newsreel footage and educational films, to conclude in a long, nocturnal aerial shot infused by countless pinpoints of light.
Originally conceived as part of a theatre production of John Moran’s opera Everyday Newt Burman presented by the Ridge Theatre in New York, Bill Morrison has created a feverish film about the birth of images as well as a reminding testimony of their decay. A thrill of visual sensations in the thrill of the high speed of the train – a sensible experience, unpredictable and inscrutable at the same time.
