Thinking/Space with Ruth Beckermann

The newly created Thinking/Space that is devoted to open and in-depth exchange about cinema as a vision of our world is dedicated to the work of Ruth Beckermann. Using excerpts from her unique films, and in conversation with Ruth Beckermann, Jean Perret (the long-time director of the Visions du réel film festival in Nyon and the head of the film department at HEAD in Geneva) explores the idiosyncrasies and dimensions of her work. The conversation will be held in German with simultaneous interpretation into English. After the event, Aesop invites you to a reception.

Lecture Paul Schrader: Rethinking Transcendental Style

In 1972, Paul Schrader, who was a film critic at the time, published one of the most beautiful film books to date: “Trans-cendental Style in Film”. On 23 May, a new edition of this classic will be published in the United States. The book is the starting point for his lecture “Rethinking Transcendental Style”. Schrader will – in his usual dynamic and absorbing way – explain why he wrote the book 45 years ago and how his thinking has changed since. A journey into the heart of cinema, moderated in English by the media scholar Johannes Binotto.

The Bildrausch Festival Bag

In 2017, Bildrausch in cooperation with Fachmaturitätsschule (FMS) for the first time presented a bag that was specially made for the festival. No question: in 2018, we once again want to delight our guests with the much-coveted bags. The graduation class 3E Design/Art of FMS Basel developed a new format after analysing the needs of festival visitors and the design of other festival bags, had critical discussions and tested prototypes, before making a limited production of 80 bags.
